Biomass energy
Biomass in numbers
Biomass powerplants
located in Sicily (solid biomass plant) and Campania (liquid biomass plant).
Gross installed capacity
Maximize power for a sustainable future and more efficient renewable energy.
Annual gross production
in the renewable energy sector thanks to our biomass plants.
Un impianto a biomassa si integra nel paesaggio agricolo. Le biomasse stoccate in grandi cumuli, come cippato o scarti vegetali, rappresentano una fonte di energia rinnovabile.
Facts
Biomass energy allows the chemical energy contained in organic matter to be converted into electricity or heat through a combustion process. In the plants, solid biomass (such as wood chips, agricultural or forestry waste) or liquid biomass (such as vegetable oils) is burned in boilers. The heat produced generates steam which, through a turbine, drives a generator to produce electricity.
In recent years, the development of techniques such as gasification or anaerobic digestion has further optimized the conversion process, making biomass an increasingly competitive and sustainable energy resource.
