EMAS

FRI-EL Green Power shows its environmental commitment also through the EMAS registration, which the group applied for and obtained for several of its wind farms. The Eco-Management and Audit Scheme is a certification regarding the system of environmental management, to whom private sector and public organisations can adhere on a voluntary basis. The EMAS certification aims to guarantee the management ability of organizational processes through an environmental policy which goes beyond the simple respect for environmental laws. In fact, EMAS urges the different organisations to set environmental objectives and checks if such objectives have been reached through specific policies. Particular emphasis is put on the commitment of the organization in improving its own performance from this point of view. Consequently, the EMAS system guarantees a control over the environmental impact of operations and helps to preserve the environment, to safeguard not only today’s community, but also future generations. To allow and guarantee the open dialogue with the public, registered organisations commit themselves to providing an environmental declaration which is verified in its conformity by an accredited environmental checker. This document carries the information about the environmental impact of the organization and about the progressive improvement of environmental performance. The document is then examined by the national competent body and must obtain an authorization from the legislative point of view (compliance with laws and regulations) by the local environmental authorities (ARPA). |
In order to meet EMAS requirements, FRI-EL Green Power obliges the single firms of the group to carry out an environmental management system which includes:
- a deep analysis concerning legislative conformity;
- the specification of environmental aspects and the evaluation of their significance;
- the carrying out of a management system adequate to the EMAS standard based on the norm ISO 14001:2004;
- an environmental policy adequate to environmental aspects;
- audit for the evaluation of environmental performance;
- the environmental declaration;
- the ratification of the environmental declaration by a third acknowledged independent party;
- the sites registration to the Ecolabel and Ecoaudit committee Italian EMAS section, according to the CEE regulation n, 761/2001;
- the periodic checking of the environmental management system through internal audit;
- the annual ratification of the environmental declaration, transmission to the appropriate body, making it publicly available on the website.
